Moteurs Baudouin S.A., based in Marseille, specialises in the design, production and sale of marine diesel engines, in particular for propulsion and the production of electricity in aggressive environments and for difficult professional applications. The heart of the Baudouin range of diesel engines, inverters and reducers lies in the power bracket 400-1,300 hp (100 to 957 kW) in 4, 6, 8 and 12 cylinders, with natural, supercharged or cooled supercharged intakes. The company also manufactures on-board generators in the power range 85 to 1,000 kVA and has a design office that specialises in complete marine propulsion systems: engine, inverter reducer, drive shaft, screws with fixed or movable blades and thrust nozzles.
The characteristics of Baudouin products (reliability, long service life, reduced operating costs) are internationally recognised and result in strong brand recognition.
The principal applications are professional: fishing, goods and passenger transport, tugs and related applications.
The company currently sells some 250 to 300 a year and has a large installed base which, given the longevity of these engines, means a profitable recurrent income stream from spare parts.

Strategy

The strategy of Moteurs Baudouin is to pursue growth by developing market share in professional fishing, river transport of goods and passengers in Europe, Africa and Asia.

The company is continuing its discussions with the French army, and has proposed a contract for Maintenance in Operational Condition for the engines of the AMX 10RC tank, armoured vehicles that are frequently deployed in foreign countries.
